What to know for Nashville Predators/Winnipeg Jets Game 2
They are the last team in Canada, the last hope of this season to break a 25-year drought that has seen Lord Stanley reside south of the border.
While this may be a great source of pride for many Manitoba residents, the Winnipeg Jets say they feel no additional pressure, or spend a lot of time thinking about it.
It's a business as usual, albeit with a whole nation of hockey fans watching to see if they will finally be the team.
The Canadians of Montreal were the last Canadian club to drink from the Cup in 1993. While other franchises have come close, they ultimately fell short.
Jets captain Blake Wheeler said it has not been a topic of discussion in the room, even if the Jets train may have some passengers out of town these days.
"I play for Winnipeg," he said.
"Mostly just recovery, I was exhausted after the last series, so I just tried to rest a bit, no problems or worries, it's nice to play again," said Laine, who scored two goals and added two assists in the first round against Minnesota. Wild.
"That's been our plan for the whole week, it does not matter if I'll take a couple of days off, I'm still going to play, I just try to be ready to play every day, nothing has changed." he said.
Laine predicted that her best hockey is yet to come, while admitting that challenges become more difficult as you progress through the playoffs.
"I feel very comfortable in these games, these are the games I enjoy the most, my game will be better as soon as it increases, I am happy to be here right now and hopefully be good on the ice. Once I get a couple of wins, "he said.
He was not present during the first round, but Toby Enstrom finally made his debut in the 2018 playoffs on Friday night.
And not a moment too soon, according to the veteran Jets defense.
"This is an exciting time, the time of year when you want to play hockey, so I'm happy to be back," said Enstrom, who returned to his family match with Dustin Byfuglien.
Enstrom suffered a lower-body injury in practice in late February and has been hampered ever since. He returned to action for a brief period, but had been out of alignment since March 23 while continuing to rehabilitate himself.
Although he is not the offensive force he once was, Enstrom is still a blue skater of soft skating.
Enstrom said it was hard not to be part of the franchise's first victory in the postseason series. He has been with the Atlanta / Winnipeg organization throughout his career.
Adam Lowry was between Bryan Little (moving to the wing) and Brandon Tanev in the third line.
Foreman Mathieu Perreault made an appearance on Friday morning skate but did not play. He continues to work to recover from an upper body injury that occurred during Game 1 against Wild.
The only other player to come out now is defender Dmitry Kulikov, who has not resumed skating after an injury to his lower body in early March. His status for the rest of the playoffs remains a mystery.
Goalkeeper Steve Mason, who was injured in practice during the Minnesota series, was in the lineup on Friday as backup copy of Connor Hellebuyck.
Healthy scratches included goalkeeper Michael Hutchinson, Morrow and Tucker Poolman in the defense, and strikers Shawn Matthias and Marko Dano.
